YK - Embrace Your Inner Leader

This workshop will provide the stepping stones for students in their journey toward realizing their full leadership potential. They will cultivate their leadership skills through learning about themselves first. Students will gain insight on applying their knowledge and experiences toward their greater goal as a leader.

Asians in the Media

In recent years asians have become more and more predominant in the media. One of their biggest successes have been on YouTube, and it has really started a large community of Asian followers. Come explore the growth of Asians in the media and see the tremendous strides they have made in the past decade.

Teamwork & Leadership

What makes a good leader?  Should teamwork and leadership be associated?  In this workshop, we will discuss the idea of teamwork and leadership and if there are times where those two coincide and other times when they do not mesh.

Becoming Badass: Forging an Asian American Identity in the space between History, Stereotype, and Family

Tired of the BS and ready for the Badass? Caught at the intersection of history, stereotype, and family, we are subject to all sorts of competing—and often conflicting—expectations and pressures about who we are, who we ought to be, and what could be, making it really hard to figure out how to be Asian, American, Asian American,…oneself? It is not enough to talk about race, it is not enough to talk about gender, it is not enough to talk about the scars of our Tiger Moms. Yet we have so many badass role models in our community, defying all. How do we cultivate an Asian Pacific American identity that works for us as we move through our many different worlds?

Revolution

Ever wanted to learn the art of Chinese yo-yoing? Here is your chance by the University of Michigan’s one and only, Revolution, the Chinese Yoyo team. They aim to promote Chinese Yoyo as a performance art form as well as bring awareness to A/PIA culture in general. So join Revolution in learning the basics and a few cool tricks of this art.

Let's Resonate!

For this workshop, it’s not about how much you know about the Asian community, it is how much you know about yourself.  We will be diving into some personal topics that deal with life, stereotypes, and being Asian-American, while also taking it to a more introspective level.  We will also discover how your identity “resonates” with others.

APA101 - College

Are you nervous about transitioning from a high school student to a college student? Have no fear, APA101 is here to help! They’ll teach you the ropes and answer any questions about not only college but what the APIA community has to offer here at the University of Michigan!
